Imagine being able to handle your dog with ease because you understand what is going on in his/her brain. We believe that being educated is the only way to find true success.

We have been teaching people how to train and handle their dogs for over 11 years. We use science to train dogs and educate the owner/handler on dog psychology. We have compiled information from top universities around the globe to teach civilians and law enforcement officers how to understand dogs and problem-solve on the fly.

We offer many different types of training packages to meet every aspect of training, per our client’s needs. Call us today so we can talk about your issues or training needs and we will provide a quote.

Services

Boarding

We have top-of-the-line, custom-designed kennels that hold even the toughest dogs. The kennels are indestructible and large enough to hold 2-3 medium/large dogs in each. Each kennel has a door that goes out to its own 4×12 run outside.

Boarding dogs are played with individually each day in our indoor play area or walked on our trails in the peaceful wooded area, weather permitting. We have many add-ons to choose from while your dog is with us for boarding, from interactive toys, relaxing massages, other spa packages, or even a full groom.

Behavior Modification

We specialize in behavior modification. We teach individuals how to bridge the communication gap between their dog and humans. Knowing the psychological makeup of a dog is key. From Yorkies to King Shepherds, the science works.

Puppy imprinting is a huge key to success. Making sure you start your pup off on the right foot helps to prevent bigger issues down the road. You can start as early as 8 weeks old. We make sure to teach husbandry skills (touching the paws, ears, and mouth properly). All of these things add up to long-term success and bad-behavior prevention. The same goes for proper socialization skills, both with other dogs and humans.

Police Program

We are recognized as a certified K-9 training agency in Illinois and Indiana.

During our academy, we will cover:

  • Dog Psychology
  • K-9 Employment
  • Case Law
  • Procedures
  • Log Keeping
  • Scent Theory
  • Reading Dog Body Language
  • Problem Solving
  • K-9 First Aid
  • Difference between Tracking & Trailing
  • Night Operations…and much more!

Here at Special O.P.S. K-9 Academy Inc. we believe in teaching the handlers dog psychology along with all the other tasks that a working dog will do. Teaching psychology will give the handlers a cutting edge when faced with traumatic experiences. No department is comfortable with an expensive working dog that doesn’t want to work or is a liability. With this knowledge, the officers will be able to identify and fix negative behaviors as they arise. We believe your K-9 officer should be polite when there isn’t a threat and tough as nails when there is one.

When we teach tracking and narcotics detection we not only teach the “How” but also the “Why.” We believe in teaching every capability a dog’s nose has. This includes how information is processed and translated into plans of action. An educated handler finds Dope and Bad Guys, it’s as simple as that. We believe the officer should be equipped for every situation, including being able to give educated answers to questions asked in a court setting. Often times defense attorneys try to discredit a K-9 officer by showing lack of knowledge. There is so much more that officers will learn here at Special O.P.S K-9 Academy, so please don’t hesitate to give us a call to find out more.

We have worked with Rudy Drexler School for Dogs, the Allen County K-9 Program, Code 2K9, and many other agencies. We have taught K-9 Psychology to officers re-certifying at Camp Muscatatuck, the Army Urban Warfare Training Center, as well as other officers across the country.
